Prof. Bo Wu is the Fiona Cheung Professor in Spatial Science, Associate Head of the Department of Land Surveying & Geo-Informatics and Associate Director of the Research Centre for Deep Space Explorations at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His main research area is photogrammetry and remote sensing. His research results have been widely used for planetary mapping to support China’s lunar and Mars landing missions and urban 3D mapping at both city and street levels. His research was awarded with numerous awards, such as the Leader of the Year Award 2019, Gold Medal and R. Alekseev Award at the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, ESRI Award for Best Scientific Paper in GIS and Talbert Abrams Award from American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and Duane C. Brown Senior Award for Photogrammetry. He serves as Associate Editor or Editorial Board Member of three international journals.

Details :

Integrated 3D mapping is to synergize different techniques (e.g., photogrammetry, photoclinometry, laser scanning) and data source (e.g., images, point clouds) to generate 3D photorealistic models of the best quality in terms of geometric accuracy and level of details. This talk will present our latest developments in integrated 3D mapping for planetary surfaces, which have been extensively used for landing site mapping and selection in China’s lunar and Mars landing missions. The talk will also show examples and practices of integrated 3D mapping in metropolitan areas to generate 3D city models of CityGML format based on images and laser scanning data collected from aerial, mobile mapping system (MMS), and backpack platforms.
